Xiaomi is a king in the budget segment for so long, it’s not that other companies didn’t try to get into this segment, they did but they failed terribly and since then other companies seem to be afraid to get into this segment, but now it seems like Honor is slowly capturing this segment with its new budget smartphones. Well, this is our detailed analysis of “Honor vs Xiaomi which company is doing better in India’s budget segment”.
Short History of Xiaomi and Honor
Well both these companies are Chinese companies and both of them primarily operate in the budget segment today, however, Honor has flagship smartphones as well and so does Xiaomi but their budget smartphones are more demanded over there flagships at least here in India, well this is the case today but many people don’t know the history of both these companies.

Xiaomi was founded back in 2010 by Lei Jun and they released their first smartphone the Mi 1 in 2011 but it was limited to China. In 2014 Xiaomi got into the International market outside of China and this was the year when they announced their Redmi Note series which became popular instantly but due to Xiaomi’s limited stocks and their weird flash sales, people were unable to buy them. Seeing the success of there budget smartphones in India, Xiaomi launched more budget smartphones and soon Xiaomi became king of Budget smartphones.
Huawei a telecommunication company was founded in the year 1988 and Honor which is a sub-brand under Huawei established in 2013 in China. In 2014, the company expanded its business in the international market and they launched their first smartphone the Honor 3c which was a budget smartphone. Honor launched its first flagship smartphone the Honor 6 in European countries. Soon then the company launched Honor 7 in October 2015 which was well received, seeing this Honor announced focused in the India market. By this time Xiaomi was already doing well in the budget category of smartphones.
Now Honor kept launching its smartphones in different price segments and then the company also started focusing on the budget segment and they launched the Honor 5X which was the first smartphone in their budget segment which got appreciation and was well received by people. In 2016 Honor launched the Honor 6x the successor of Honor 5x and this time around due to its dual camera technology in the budget segment this smartphone became quite popular and was giving tough competition to Xiaomi’s budget smartphones.
Xiaomi vs Honor Who is the Budget King?
In 2017 Honor launched another budget smartphone the Honor 7x which had all the things a great smartphone should have a dual camera, 18:9 big display, a good custom EMUI skin. Xiaomi also launched it’s Redmi Note 4 which was a powerful smartphone but lacked the latest technology. But Xiaomi is yet to launch it’s Redmi Note 5 which is set to launch on 14th of February and is expected to come with all the latest trends such as an 18:9 screen, dual camera setup etc.
The most important thing is the customer service, well we all agree that Honor and Xiaomi both of them don’t have a good service but by 2015 Honor had 150+ service centers and Xiaomi just had 70+ service centers. Which clearly states that Honor takes lead in this part.
Talking about who is the best in the budget segment we feel that till now Xiaomi was a king in this segment but now it seems like Honor is also set in the budget segment as the Honor 7x the latest budget smartphone by Honor got the “Best Budget Smartphone” award. But this might change when the Redmi Note 5 launches. But looking at the sales and customer love for both of these companies Honor has started getting fans all over India and soon Honor might take the crown.
